This piece comes out of the same place a lot of my work does — that moment where things start to break open.

I work with the palette knife because it doesn’t let me hide. It forces decisions. It cuts, drags, exposes. What shows up here feels like a split in the surface — like something underneath finally pushing its way through.

That white line running through the composition… to me it reads like lightning. Not just visually, but symbolically. Across cultures, lightning has always been tied to sudden awareness — a flash of understanding, a direct connection between something higher and something grounded. It’s that instant where everything changes and you can’t go back to not seeing. When I think about fire in this piece, I’m not just thinking about destruction. I’m thinking about transformation — the way energy moves through us, the way thought ignites, the way emotion burns and reshapes perception. The lower portion of the painting carries that heat. It feels grounded, physical, almost like the body.

Above it, things open up — color loosens, edges dissolve. There’s less weight, more atmosphere. That contrast matters to me. It’s the movement from density to clarity.

A lot of my work, especially within the Fractured and Bio-Sigil direction, sits in that space between structure and release. Between what we think we are and what starts to emerge when that structure breaks.

This painting feels like a map of that process.

Not a clean transformation. Not peaceful. But real.

It’s the moment the system overloads…

and something deeper finally comes through.
